What is slowed and reverb?

Slowed and reverb is a remix style where a song is slowed to around 80–90% speed, pitched down slightly and soaked in long reverb. The result feels nostalgic, spacious and dreamy.

The trend grew on YouTube and TikTok, where “slowed + reverb” versions of pop and R&B songs are everywhere. This tool gets you there in a few seconds.

Behind the effect is a simple recipe that anyone can follow. Slowing a track by 10–20% lowers the voice and lengthens every note, and a long reverb tail fills the gaps between them. Warmth then softens the brightest frequencies so the song feels older and further away. This maker gives you each ingredient as its own slider, so you can recreate the slowed versions you hear online or invent your own mood — from gently slowed to deep and ambient.

Slowed and reverb presets

Every preset slows the song and lowers its pitch together, like a record played slightly too slow, then adds reverb and warmth:

PresetSpeedReverbFeel
Classic Slowed0.85×Medium hallThe standard slowed + reverb sound
Dreamy0.80×LargeSpacious and nostalgic
Lo-fi Slowed0.88×SmallWarm, softened top end
Ultra Slowed0.70×CathedralAlmost ambient, very deep vocals

Speed goes from 0.60× to 1.00×. Turn off “Link pitch to speed” to slow the song but keep its original key, or set the pitch yourself between −8 and +1 semitones.

How to get the slowed + reverb sound right

  • Slow first, then add reverb. Find a speed that feels relaxed (usually 0.80–0.90×), then raise reverb until the vocal starts to float.
  • More slow, more space. The slower the track, the more reverb it can carry without sounding muddy.
  • Use warmth for lo-fi. Warmth gently rolls off the high frequencies, the way an old tape or cheap speaker would. 20–60% is plenty.
  • Watch the low end. Lower pitch moves the bass even lower; if your headphones start to rumble, back off the speed a little.
  • Choose emotional songs. Ballads, R&B and slow pop work best — the style is built on nostalgia.

Why slowed and reverb songs sound so good

Slowing a song stretches every note and lowers the voice, which reads as calmer and more intimate. Reverb then puts that voice in a large, echoing room, a bit like hearing music from another room at a party or in a memory. Together they make familiar songs feel distant and nostalgic. We dig into the psychology in why slowed + reverb songs feel so nostalgic.

Slowed and reverb vs chopped and screwed

Slowed and reverb borrows from chopped and screwed, the Houston hip-hop style pioneered by DJ Screw in the 1990s. Both slow a song down and lower the pitch, but they aim for different moods:

  • Chopped and screwed slows rap tracks heavily and adds DJ tricks — skips, repeats and scratches — for a hazy, heavy feel.
  • Slowed + reverb keeps the song mostly intact, then drowns it in reverb for a soft, dreamy and nostalgic sound. It took off on YouTube around 2017 and later on TikTok.

This slowed and reverb maker focuses on the second style: it slows the song smoothly and adds a lush hall reverb, without any chopping. Pair it with the 8D converter for a slowed 8D version.

Slowed vs slowed + reverb vs ultra slowed

VersionSpeedWhat it sounds like
Slowed0.85–0.95×A calmer, lower version with no added space
Slowed + reverb0.80–0.90×Lower and slower inside a large, echoing hall
Ultra slowed0.65–0.75×Very deep vocals and long, ambient tails
Lo-fi slowed0.85–0.90×Warm, muffled top end like an old cassette

All four are possible here: set reverb to 0 for a plain slowed song, or use the presets as shortcuts. Slowed songs are also great background music for study videos, edits and late-night playlists.

FAQ

Slowed and Reverb FAQ

Is the Slowed and Reverb Maker free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no cap on how many slowed versions you make. Your songs are slowed and rendered in the browser and never leave your device.

What speed is best for slowed and reverb?

Between 0.80× and 0.90× works for most songs. Go lower (0.70×) for an ultra slowed, almost ambient version, and add more reverb as you slow down.

Can I add reverb without slowing the song?

Yes. Set the speed slider to 1.00× and only raise the reverb. Turning on warmth also softens the high end for a lo-fi feel.

Will the quality drop after slowing?

Slowing adds no compression of its own. Choose WAV to avoid any extra lossy encoding, or MP3 at 320 kbps for a smaller file. Slowing a low-bitrate source will make its existing artifacts easier to hear, so start from the best file you have.

Can I slow down a song without lowering the pitch?

Yes. Turn off “Link pitch to speed” and set the pitch to 0. The tempo slows while the key stays the same, which keeps vocals sounding natural.

What does the Warmth slider do?

Warmth gently rolls off the high frequencies, like an old tape or a vintage speaker. It softens harsh cymbals and gives slowed tracks a cosy lo-fi feel.

How do I get a huge, cathedral-like reverb?

Choose the Ultra Slowed preset, or push Reverb to 80–90% and slow the song to around 0.70×. Big reverb sounds best on slow ballads with plenty of space.

Why does my slowed song sound watery?

Low-bitrate files (128 kbps or less) hide compression artifacts that become audible when the song is slowed. Use a 320 kbps MP3, a FLAC or a WAV for the cleanest slowed and reverb result.

Can I make slowed and reverb on my phone?

Yes. The tool works in mobile Safari and Chrome. Pick a song from your files, choose a preset and download the slowed version as MP3 or WAV.

How do I post a slowed song as a video?

Download the slowed track and open it in the Audio Visualizer. Choose 9:16 for TikTok or Reels and render an MP4 with no watermark.
